Tim: Director of a Property Development Company

I met Nick originally many years ago when we both worked as Financial Advisers for the same company. Before qualifying as an Adviser, I had previously trained as a Quantity Surveyor, so when a successful Property Development company that I had acted for as a Financial Adviser offered me the chance to get on board as a Quantity Surveyor, I opted for a complete change of career.

After a while, my role within the Development Company grew and I became a Director. The company was also growing rapidly, and various projects that it was undertaking made it increasingly difficult to pull everything together. During this time Nick and I had still kept in touch and, knowing his background as I did, my colleagues and I agreed that Lonsdale’s ongoing services via their retainer fee agreement would be a useful asset to help us (and our various working partners) to restructure the Company and advise on the tax issues of our various other developments.

My Company is very diverse. We have a number of different people advising us on various aspects of the business, including Accountants, Tax Advisers and Solicitors. Nick’s role within Lonsdale is to be the central facilitator for all of these contacts, and to co-ordinate (and translate!) the advice they give us. Through Lonsdale, we have also implemented the necessary arrangements to protect the business financially, including shareholder agreements, Wills, financial protection, and sourcing new premises for our business to enable us to develop our old site.

Aside from the company, Lonsdale have also helped me to identify the ‘bigger picture’. They have a very in-depth understanding of my personal position, and what I want to achieve throughout my life. They now advise me and my fellow Director on our personal arrangements, as well as the Company’s, and have found a way to tie all of these things together to help us attain our personal objectives, manage the company effectively, and protect ourselves and our families so we can concentrate our efforts on doing what we do best: building for the future.
